The 1856 tower is still standing. (U.S.Coast Guard photo) Brant Point Light is a lighthouse located on Nantucket Island. The station was established in 1746, automated in 1965, and is still in operation.

Why did Brant Point have a red light?

In 1900 a fixed red light was installed at the extremity of Brant Point, 600 ft (180 m) from the 1856 tower, it having been found necessary to move the light outward, owing to changes in the channel. This was the ninth light to be located on the Brant Point site in addition to the Nantucket Harbor Range Lights .

Is Brant Point Light a historic place?

In 1987, Brant Point Light became a part of The National Register of Historic Places, placing itself in good company with Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House, Martin Luther King Jr.’s grave, the Wright Flyer III (the third plane of the Wright brothers), and thousands of other sites of significance.
